The Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby is this Saturday, May 21, and you might want to get your ticket now because they’re almost sold out of the capped 300 ticket limit.
“We only have a few tickets left, and it has been very good fishing and John Thomas, owner of Rotten Chum Guide Service had 36 kokanee for his clients the other day,” said Mike Chamberlain at Ted’s Sports Center in Lynnwood.
Most of the kokanee were 12 to 13 inches with some pushing 15 inches, and even anglers new to the fishery were catching fish.
Cost for the derby is $20 for anglers 15 and older, and free for those under age 14.
“This was an extremely popular event last year, and I am sure that it will be such again this year,” Chamberlain said. “We have “lots” of great prizes for those participating in the derby.’
Chamberlain also said they’ll be filling reels for the derby with either 6 or 8 pound Sufix Line free of charge.
