North Kitsap/Bainbridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited celebrating chinook release into Puget Sound

Central Puget Sound will get a boost of young chinook salmon this Friday with the hopes they’ll return as adults in the near future to boost the next generation of fish as well as adding catches to the local sport fisheries.

The North Kitsap/Bainbridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be releasing approximately 190,000 chinook into Dogfish Creek near Poulsbo, which the group has been feeding Websters Pond.

Guests are welcome to attend the Club’s Potluck Party 5 p.m. Friday, May 20.

The group last Saturday weighed a sample of the fish, and it seems that there are approximately 2.5 tons of chinook that they’ll release into the creek.

“We’ve been releasing the fish for years into the creek,” said John Endresen, President of the North Kitsap/ Bainbridge Chapter of TU. “We will start to drain the pond a little earlier since it take a while to drop to a level that the fish must leave.”

For details, call 360-638-1849 or visit the Trout Unlimited website.
