Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby results showed slow fishing

Here are the results from the Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby on Saturday, May 21.

There was 240 adult tickets sold and 65 tickets for kids.

“It was sort of tough fishing for the derby, and wasn’t as good as last year by any means,” said Mike Chamberlain at Ted’s Sports Center in Lynnwood who were the main sponsors of the event. “A lot of people struggled and got skunked.”

John Thomas of Rotten Chum Guide Service had 25 kokanee, and said the bite was really early from dawn until 7:30 a.m., and then it was scratch a fish here and there, before dying completely after 10:30 a.m.

Biggest kokanee: 1, Rachel Dye, 1.61 pounds, $1,000; 2, Randy Costallo, 1.33, $500; 3, Derick Whitaker, 1.20, $250; 4, Jeff Galliger, 1.20.

Biggest kokanee bag limit (10 fish daily): 1, Carl Huswick, 9.93 pounds, $500; 2, Butch Spafford, 9.52, $250.

Biggest Trout: Butch Spafford, 1.18 pounds, $500.

Kids Division (any species): 1, Mackenzie Ramsey, 4.04 pound smallmouth bass, $100; 2, Neil Blain, 3.5 smallmouth bass, $75; 3, Nate Metcalf, 1.04 kokanee, $50.
