The winning fish in Port Angeles Halibut Derby weighed 138 pounds

The Port Angeles Halibut Derby ended today (May 29), with 665 anglers turning out and the top three fish all topped the century mark.

Taking first place was Chuck Brown of Renton with a big halibut he caught on Saturday that weighed 138 pounds, and earned him the $5,000 first place prize.

The second place money of $2,500 went to Bryan Johnson of Port Angeles with a 107 pound halibut, and third place purse of $1,500 went to Dale Clark of Shelton for a 106 halibut.

Two fish weighing 70 pounds took fourth and fifth, with five fish in the 60-pound range winding up the top 10. It took a 45-pounder to win 30th place prize.

While last year 688 anglers turned out the winning halibut only topped 88 pounds.
