Word on Columbia estuary sturgeon fishery

Here is the latest Lower Columbia estuary sturgeon report from state Fish and Wildlife:

Last week anglers in the estuary made about 3,000 trips and kept 747 legal white sturgeon.

Catch rates were similar to the previous week, but effort among private boat anglers increased slightly.

Overall effort is running about 75% compared to July 2010 with catch rates for legal and sublegal fish of 120% and 165% of those observed last year, respectively.
