Reel Time trivia winner hails from Seattle

Congratulations to our Reel Time Pacific Northwest fishing and outdoor trivia contest winner Brent Jones of Seattle who said the answer was the “north and south jetties off Grays Harbor.”

“I’ve fished off the south jetty itself a few times, and have spent a lot of time offshore out of Westport,” said Jones, age 37 and a native of Auburn.

Jones is a fifth generation of King County resident whose great, great grandparents moved to Black Diamond in the late 1800’s to work at the coal mines.

Jones comes from fishing family – his dad LeRoy now retired works at Auburn Sports & Marine – and used to take annual summer fishing trips as a kid to Neah Bay and Sekiu.

“I primarily salmon and steelhead fish,” Jones said. “I understand I caught my first salmon (a coho) at Neah Bay just after I turned four. I caught my first steelhead plunking at the Main Street hole in Auburn on the Green when I was seven.”

Jones says the areas off Neah Bay are still probably his favorite spot in Washington to fish.”

Like many proud fathers Jones’ days on the water are getting fewer and fewer with two small kids at home, and his trips are usually closer to home like Marine Areas 7, 9 and 10.

Jones wins some Berkley Power Bait Products and an outdoors book.

This will be an ongoing weekly trivia contest through the summer where the winner who answers the question first will receive an outdoor prize that will range from books, Berkley bait, lures and other nifty items from the outdoors gunnysack.

The next trivia question will be posted on Monday, Aug. 8.
