Pink fishery very good in many areas of Puget Sound

The pink salmon fishery peppered with some nice ocean coho has lit up around Puget Sound in recent days.

“We have 19 pinks and one coho in the boat,” Gary Krein, owner of All Star Charters in Shilshole Bay said when I checked with him around 10 a.m. this morning.

Krein was fishing the stretch of Shilshole Bay between Meadow Point and West Point, which is loaded with pinks and a few coho.

I fished it this morning after giving one last try for late kings up at Point No Point, where the early morning dogfish bite was horrendous. We never did see a single salmon net fly nor did we see anyone catching any salmon while up there between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

That was when we headed south to try our luck where Krein was fishing.

We managed to hook one pink, but got there late into the bite. I heard the daybreak bite was pretty good, and as the day goes along the fish tend to go deeper.

Other places where pink fishing was good was from Edmonds north to Browns Bay, Picnic Point to Mukilteo, the west side of Whidbey Island, Possession Bar, Jefferson Head, and from Lincoln Park south to Browns Point near Tacoma.

Some of the rivers have also come alive with pinks like the Puyallup, Snohomish, Skykomish and Skagit.
