Salmon migrating into the eastern portions of the Columbia River

Here is the fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

Fall run salmon are making their way up the Columbia to our region, and anglers are looking to head them off at locations downstream. Anglers are having some good days below Wanapum Dam, Priest Rapids and at White Bluffs.

The main run has yet to reach our area, and there are some good days and some slow ones. Last week the fishing at White Bluffs was very good, with many boats limiting. The following day it was poor, with many boats getting blanked but a few anglers took home fish.

There are still summer fish being landed up stream in places like “Pelican” just around the corner from the Brewster Pool, and both above and below Wells Dam.

Many of the local guides are “transitioning”, that is moving their operations down stream to get after the brighter fall fish. A brand new season will open this week at the tail race below the powerhouse at Chelan Falls.

As many as 2,000 summer runs are expected to show up here this year. There is a very tight area opened to fishing and some other special rules that anglers will want to know. I would suggest reading the news release on the Department’s web site.
