Record number of fall angler trips made on Lower Columbia River

The number of angler trips is record high for the fall time frame, and the chinook catch is already the second highest on record, according to Joe Hymer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Vancouver.

The total kept catch for Aug. 1-Sept. 18 is 23,758 adult fall chinook, 11,635 steelhead and 1,055 coho from 128,410 trips.

Last week (Sept. 12-18) anglers on the Lower Columbia made 19,259 trips and kept 5,261 adult fall chinook, 186 adipose fin-clipped steelhead, and 198 adipose fin-clipped coho. In addition anglers released 273 coho, 51 steelhead, and 657 adult fall chinook.
