New Doppler radar off the south-central coast will boost awareness of incoming storms

A new Doppler radar in Grays Harbor near Copalis Beach will vastly improve weather forecasting for those who venture outdoors especially for anglers heading to the coast.

This state-of-the-art technology is the first in the nation and closes the severe weather gap over the Pacific Northwest’s outer coast caused by the Olympic Mountains.

This past Thursday, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) attended a ribbon-cutting celebration to declare the radar operational.

Forecasters can now better determine wind speed and rainfall of incoming storms to give more accurate and timely warnings to residents and others in harm’s way, and help prevent loss of life and billions of dollars in property damage.
