La Push and Grays Harbor still ponying up salmon for anglers

Here is the latest word on a couple of coastal areas that remain open for saltwater salmon fishing.

Scott Barbour, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Montesano said last week, 252 anglers caught 57 chinook and 33 coho. In the La Push Last Chance Derby last weekend the winning king was 32 pounds, and the biggest coho was 16 pounds.

“As far as Grays Harbor there’s fish all over, and I’ve been fishing the past couple of days and there is feed everywhere and we hooked a few,” Barbour said. “For boats it has been spotty and that depends on where they’re at. Sounds like down low (near the Johns River) it is not as good as “Monte” (Montesano area) and will probably change now that the (commercial gill) nets have been out a couple of days.”
