Trout Unlimited Bristol Bay Director Shoren Brown is guest speaker at Icicle Chapter TU meeting

The Icicle Chapter of Trout Unlimited in Leavenworth next meeting is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Kristall’s Restaurant in Leavenworth.

Trout Unlimited Bristol Bay Director Shoren Brown will host a presentation on the protection of Bristol Bay from the development of a gold and copper mine. The massive gold and copper prospect known as Pebble, lies in the headwaters of Bristol Bay and foreign developers are investing millions to turn it into one of the world’s largest open pit mine in the world.

If Pebble gets developed it is a virtual certainty that mine pollution will devastate Bristol Bay’s prime salmon and rainbow trout habitat.

Bristol Bay is home to the world’s largest salmon run providing over 14,000 jobs to commercial and sports fishermen. Washington commercial fishermen have over $200 million invested in fishing Bristol Bay, Alaska.
