If you’re thinking about entering Roche Harbor’s 9th Annual Salmon Classic Invitational on Feb. 2-4 at Roche Harbor Marine & Resort on San Juan Island, don’t mull over it too long.
This highly popular winter derby has sold out the past six years in a row, and that usually happens right before the Christmas holidays.
The three-day sport fishing event has a 100 boat limit (four anglers per boat) with a daily cannon starts, and three nights of hosted dinners and prizes awarded.
The derby has more than $30,000 in cash and prizes. First place is worth $10,000, second is $5,000, third is $3,000, fourth is $2,000, and fifth is $1,000. There is also $2,000 for the Mystery Fish, and $2,000 for the Best Boat Total Weight.
Each night donated prizes are drawn from the Northwest’s favorite fishing tackle and accessory companies like Frabill; Scotty; Shimano; Laminglass; Simrad; and Berkley.
Cost is $700, plus sales tax $54.60, which includes moorage and angler’s dinner all three nights.
