The opening of waterfowl hunting season at the Potholes Reservoir in Eastern Washington was the weakest production of ducks in recent memory.
The Feds have been counting waterfowl for 56 years, and the counts for the 2011/2012 waterfowl season are the highest they have been in 42 years.
So the owners at the Potholes Resort are all looking forward to the harsh winter weather to bring the northern birds down to Central Washington.
In the meantime it is time to enjoy fall fishing in the Potholes Recreation Area. The surface water temperatures have cooled, which has made the fishing improve greatly.
