Fish originally thought to be a record brown bullhead is confirmed as a channel catfish

State Fish and Wildlife has confirmed that what was at first thought to be a new state record for a brown bullhead caught on the night of Sept. 28 from Lacamas Lake in Clark County was actually a channel catfish.

“Upon further review, genetic sampling determined this fish to be a channel catfish,” said Joe Hymer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Vancouver.

Hymer said while the channel catfish was a nice size fish, the state record is 36.20 pounds caught by Ross Kincaid in the I-82 Pond #6 in Yakima County on Sept. 6, 1999.

The channel catfish caught in Lacamas Lake was 28.1 pounds.
