Here’s a winter steelhead fishing report on the Lower Hoh River in the northern Olympic Peninsula from Kevin Klein of Friday Harbor and member of the San Juan Island Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers.
“My buddy Ken “The Codfather” Serbian, and I flew out to Port Angeles Saturday on our way to Forks to fish the next day with Matt McCulloch,” Klein said.
“Matt owns Tyee Charters out of Bainbridge Island, but also does guided river trips on the Oly Pen rivers when he’s not chasing Salmon in the salt.”
“The forecast called for a trace of snow the next day, so we figured no big deal getting around for us. Of course, we woke up Sunday to almost a foot of fresh snow in Forks.”
“More precipitation was called for during the day, but instead the skies cleared up and the sun shown on fresh powder. The water levels and color were spot on, and the fishing was good. We kept a couple nice clipped fish, and had one at the last hole before the takeout that ended the float with some whoops and hollers.”
