The Anacortes Salmon Derby ended on Sunday with twice as many fish caught compared to last year.
During the two-day derby 211 fish were weighed-in (174 on Saturday and 37 on Sunday) compared to 101 last year.
While the sheer number of fish caught was high the average size was smaller with the average weight being 8.6 pounds compared to 10.7 last year. The weight total was 1,798 pounds (1,081 last year).
The winning hatchery chinook caught by Ted Radke of Ferndale was caught on Saturday and weighed 21.72 pounds and earned him $15,000. Second place went to Mike McCauley of Bellingham with a 21.51 pound hatchery chinook and he took home $5,000.
