Get ready for spring and summer by taking a fly-casting class

Fly anglers looking to tune-up their techniques in time for spring and summer can attend an upcoming seminar.

Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters, and Darrel and Michael Martin are hosting “The Fundamentals of Fly Casting” 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, April 22.

Each four-hour class session combines instruction, demonstration and casting practice on local water. It includes an introduction to equipment, theory of casting, and leaders and knots.

In addition, there is instruction on rod assembly, hook removal and knots as well as various casting methods.

Instructors include Darrel Martin, certified by the Federation of Fly-Fishers (USA) and the Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors (UK), and experienced shop staff.

Those attending should have the following equipment: raingear, brimmed hat or cap, rod, reel, backing, fly line, and 3X tippet.

The store can help with any problems in setting up equipment, including rods, reels, and line at no extra charge. If required, free equipment is available on loan for these classes.

Students are encouraged to bring lunch and drink. Cost is $50. For details, call 253-835-4100.
