Fish Lake near Wenatchee ice free and teeming with trout

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

The last of the ice that had been covering Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee, has cleared off, so anglers can this popular spot to their list of possible places to catch trout this spring.

I have already had reports that the fishing is great with lots of 12-inch rainbow being landed.

The Cove Resort is open now, so dock fishing is available and the launch is open, too.

Fish Lake is an excellent trout fishery in the spring and the trout will be very hungry right now, just after ice off.

Trolling is a very good way to fill stringers at the lake, and there are two favored methods.

One is to get one of Scott West’s High Lake Specials, which he has at the resort store. This simple rig has a small blade, a couple of beads and a hook. It even comes with a barrel swivel.

All you need to do is put a spit shot or two on it, bait it with a piece of worm and you’re ready to go. Scott will even show how to best thread the worm on the hook. He also advises anglers to put it way back behind the boat and do some “S” turns when trolling.

One of my favorite ways to catch Fish Lake trout is to pull a Wooly Bugger fly. Fish Lake trout will pounce on black bead head.
