Updated Opening Day trout fishing checks and reports

UPDATED FISH CHECKS:

Island County: Deer, 16 anglers caught 52 trout (20 released) for 3.3 fish kept per rod (4.5 kept and released average); and Goss, 5 with 16 for 3.2.

King County: Cottage, 70 with 100 (203) for 1.4 (4.3); Geneva, 27 with 65 (68) for 2.4 (4.9); Langlois, 51 with 191 (132) for 3.7 (6.3); Margaret, 55 with 75 (98) for 1.4 (3.1); North, 12 with 42 for 3.5; Pine, 75 with 230 (152) for 3.1 (5.1); Steel, 23 with 95 (13) for 4.1 (4.7); and Walker, 33 with 138 (40) for 4.2 (5.4).

Skagit County: Erie, 53 with 205 (42) for 3.9 (4.7); Heart, 112 with 330 (133) for 2.9 (4.1); McMurray, 65 with 199 (53) for 3.1 (3.9); and Sixteen, 56 with 166 (59) for 3.0 (4.0).

Snohomish County: Armstrong, 26 with 15 (25) for 0.6 (1.5); Bosworth, 31 with 100 (21) for 3.2 (3.9); Crabapple, 16 with 34 (34) for 2.1 (4.3); Howard, 91 with 171 (238) for 1.9 (4.5); Ki, 76 with 112 (100) for 1.5 (2.8); Martha at Alderwood Manor, 46 with 93 (61) for 2.0 (3.3); Riley, 72 with 196 (119) for 2.7 (4.4); Serene, 18 with 46 (65) for 2.6 (6.2); Stickney, 11 with 19 (50) for 1.7 (6.3); Storm, 53 with 131 (49) for 2.5 (3.4); and Wagner, 10 with 11 (54) for 1.1 (6.5).

Whatcom County: Cain, 42 with 160 (110) for 3.8 (6.4); Padden, 58 with 225 (53) for 3.9 (4.8); Silver, 132 with 401 (240) for 3.0 (4.9); and Toad, 65 with 217 (278) for 3.3 (7.6).

Grant County: Warden 4.1 and 5.0; Deep, 3.1 and 5.5; Park, 2.9 and 3.3; Blue, 1.9 and 1.9; and Vic Meyers, 1.2 and 1.3.

Here are some highlights reported by Doug Hatfield, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist on opening day catches:

At Lake Langlois two anglers caught and released 65 trout, the largest trout was 15 ¾ inches along with 10 fish over 15 inches.

At Riley Lake there was a couple trout that measured over 15 inches.

At Lake Serene two anglers caught five trout over 15 inches.

At Heart Lake there was one trout that measured 19 inches.

At Padden Lake shore anglers did just as well as boat anglers.

At Lake Geneva two anglers throwing flies each caught and released 30 trout apiece. Average size of trout was 11.2 inches.

At Lake Margaret the catch was equal numbers of cutthroat and rainbow trout. Largest fish was a 15-inch cutthroat.

At Lake Ki there was three trout checked over 15 inches.

At Armstrong Lake one angler had fished there 63 of the last 65 years.

At Martha Lake at Alderwood Manor boats did better than bank anglers. Largest trout was 16 inches.

In Grant County the carryover trout averaged up to 18 inches, one fish measured out at 23 inches. Park and Blue lakes had the nicest yearling trout.
