The Port Angeles Salmon Club’s Halibut Derby is May 26-27, and the largest halibut caught is worth $5,000.
Second place is worth $2,500; third is $1,500; fourth is $1,200; fifth is $1,100; sixth is $1,000; seventh is $800; eighth is $700; ninth is $600; and 10th is $500.
Anglers are allowed to fish within Marine Catch Area 6 of the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca only.
Last year, Chuck Brown of Renton caught a 138 pound halibut to take home the grand prize. Brown outfished 664 anglers, including second place finisher Bryan Johnson of Port Angeles who caught a 107-pound halibut and third place went to Dale Clark of Shelton with a 106-pound halibut.
