Columbia River etsuary catches still on the slow side for sturgeon

Here is the latest information on the Columbia River estuary sturgeon fishery provided by Joe Hymer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist:

Charter boat anglers averaged a legal kept per every 15 rods. Private boat anglers sampled had single keeper.

Overall, if an angler catches a white sturgeon there was a 12-percent chance it was a legal size fish.

Sturgeon sport sampling summaries for below Wauna May 11-20:

Ilwaco/Ft. Canby: Three private boats with six anglers caught no fish; 10 charter boats with 76 anglers caught five sturgeon and released one.

Port of Chinook: 11 private boats with 30 anglers caught one sturgeon and released two.
