As anglers wait for northcentral salmon to arrive, many are heading to Chelan for kokanee

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

Summer run salmon are making their way up the Columbia to the Central Washington region, but are running late, as have other runs to the Columbia this year.

In the mean time anglers are still finding good action on large kokanee at Lake Chelan. The schools of fish are scattered and anglers may take longer to find and catch these kokanee as earlier this summer, but size is holding up very well.

I fished Chelan recently with Corey Feil, from Bob Feil Boats and Motors and Gary Planagan, owner of Osprey Rafting in Leavenworth, and although we started out very slow, we ended the day with a dozen very nice fish. Kokanee to over 15 inches can still be caught on Chelan, but there are a few smaller fish appearing in the catches now.

We were able to get fish from Mill Bay all the way down to Lakeside Park. We got many fish on our shallow rod, which was only about 15 feet deep.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the CCA Salmon Derby on the 13th to the 15th of July. Get the details at the Wenatchee Salmon Derby website.
