Those who have an interest in the sturgeon fisheries across the state should plan on attending six public meetings coming up soon.
State Fish and Wildlife will provide updates on white sturgeon population status, and discussion of possible options for future management of various fisheries.
Sturgeon abundance has declined in the Columbia River with catch rate guidelines being cut 30 to 40 percent in the past few years. Catches have also dropped on the coast and in Puget Sound.
Other topics include season length, number of retention days per week, fishing gear and catch allocation.
