West Coast’s biggest event the Everett Coho Derby is Sept. 22-23

The largest derby on the West Coast, the Everett Coho Derby, is coming up on Sept. 22-23, and is sponsored by Cabela’s in conjunction with the Snohomish Sportsmen’s Club and the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club.

Top prize for the biggest coho is $3,000, and other big giveaways include a raffle for a 16-foot G3 V16 XT Boat, trailer, and 20 horsepower Yamaha courtesy of Three Rivers Marine in Woodinville, plus as part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series there will be a drawing for fully-equipped 21-foot River Hawk and trailer.

There will also be a Mystery Weight Fish Contest where the winner will receive at Dodge Ram 1500 Express Truck courtesy of Dwayne Lane’s Family Auto Center.

Cost is $25 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free). Tickets are available at Ted’s Sports Center in Lynnwood, Outdoor Emporium in Seattle, Three Rivers Marine and Tackle in Woodinville, Ed’s Surplus, Greg’s Custom Rods, Harbor Marine, John’s Sporting Goods, Holiday Sports, Hook Line & Sinker, McDaniel’s Do It Center in Snohomish, Performance Marine, Possession Bait and Triangle Bait & Tackle.

In the derby coho are allowed to be caught in certain rivers and saltwater areas.

Last year’s derby drew 1,904 anglers who caught 673 coho.

During the 18 years of the derby’s history about three-fourths of the time the winning coho has come from a marine area.
