Grays Harbor salmon opener on Sunday was terrible

Well the king salmon opener in Grays Harbor was a bust yesterday (Sunday, Sept. 16) and the likely culprit in the slow fishing was Mother Nature.

“We saw very, very few caught, mostly dark chinook,” said Tony Floor, director of fishing affairs for the Northwest Marine Trade Association, who says a weather change is needed in order to get those fish moving into the harbor and up the rivers. “We kept one 6-pound coho.”

“The fish, both chinook and coho are not moving into the harbor,” Floor said. “Meanwhile, lots of fish offshore, according to the charter fleet who did very well (on Sunday).”
