Good number of coho weighed on the first day of the Everett Coho Derby

The first day of the Everett Coho Derby is now in the books, and many found fairly good fishing.

The derby drew 1,831 adult anglers and 232 kids who weighed-in 788 coho.

Adult division: 1, Chance Cochrell of Snohomish, 15.37 pound coho; 2, Derek Hougen of Everett, 12.56; 3, 3, Richard Morton of Mukilteo, 11.74; 4, Jan. LaQua of Mukilteo, 11.67; 5, Steve Roberts of Snohomish, 11.35; 6, Tony Beaupre of Woodinville, 11.35; 7, Gina Mattern of Monroe, 10.39; 8, Mark Sears of Marsyville, 10.25; 9, Rick Ratynski of Stanwood, 10.17; 10, Phillip Swartzell of Snohomish, 10.02.

Youth division: 1, 8.58, Jeff Christen of Marysville.

Last year lured more than 1,900 anglers out onto the water of Puget Sound and local rivers, and 673 salmon were weighed in.

The derby’s big draw will be the Northwest Marine Trade Association’s yearlong derby series raffle for a 21-foot boat/motor/trailer package. Another raffle is a 16-foot boat/motor/trailer package. Mystery weight fish also wins a Dodge Ram 1500 truck.

The final day of the derby is Sunday.
