Lower Columbia sturgeon fishery will not reopen

The Columbia River Compact, a group of fisheries officials from the state and tribes, met earlier this week and have decided to take the following action in regards to the Columbia River sturgeon fishery.

The recreational white sturgeon fishery will remain closed in the area from Wauna powerlines upstream to Bonneville Dam including adjacent Washington tributaries.

Originally it was scheduled to reopen from Oct. 20 to Dec. 31.

Another compact hearing is planned for 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 to consider additional non-Indian commercial fisheries.
