The general deer hunting season opens this weekend, and one popular location the Hood Canal Tree Farm properties in Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason counties will remain closed to all public access due to extreme fire hazards.
The closure will remain in effect until significant rainfall occurs on the properties owner by the Pope Resources Company.
The extended dry conditions have left the area vulnerable to hazardous fire conditions. Pope Resources owns and manages nearly 71,000 acres of forestland on its Hood Canal Tree Farm.
