Razor clam dates set through December, and opener this past weekend was very good

Clam diggers can now make preliminary plans to hit coastal beaches through December, and judging by this past weekend’s season opener digging should remain excellent.

The past weekend saw just shy of 16,000 diggers (11,500 were checked on Saturday) with an average of 14.1 clams per person.

Currently digging is open through Thursday (Oct. 18) at Twin Harbors only.

The next series of digs will occur at the end of this month, and final approval should be announced about a week before the digs after marine toxin testing show clams are safe to eat. Digging is allowed during evening low tides only.

Other dates this month are: Saturday, Oct. 27 (low tide is plus-0.2 feet at 5:57 p.m.), and Sunday, Oct. 28 (-0.1 at 6:36 p.m.) at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks; Monday, Oct. 29 (-0.3 at 7:12 p.m.) and Tuesday, Oct. 30 (-0.4 at 7:46 p.m.) at Twin Harbors only.
