Salmon still hanging around the San Juan Islands

Coho Photo San Juans.jpg

Here is the latest San Juan Island fishing report from Kevin Klein, member of the San Juan Island Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers:

One week left in the 2012 summer salmon season, and the coho just keep coming. Usually I’d be up in the rivers right now, but why make the trip when you can catch easy limits of dime bright Silvers 5 minutes from Port.

These fish will move through in schools on the tide. Work the tide rips in deeper water, 60-160 feet down on the ‘rigger. Chrome Dodgers ahead of needle squid have been the top producers.

Blackmouth fishing has actually been pretty good, mostly toward the East side of the Islands. I’m starting to get excited for the Dec. 1 winter chinook opener, and the $10,000 First Prize Resurrection Derby shortly after. Go to the Resurrection Derby website for more information.
