Stillaguamish River North Fork running high and turbid, and put on damper on steelhead fishing

The much anticipated conventional fishing gear (bait and lure) opener last Saturday on the North Fork of Stillaguamish River for winter steelhead was more than likely a bust due to terrible water conditions.

“I dont know much other than it was running 8,000 cfs (cubic feet per second) early in the morning so I dont think there was anybody up there fishing,” said Brett Barkdull, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist.

Many other rivers were also running high although the Cascade River was producing some steelhead as was Reiter Ponds on the Skykomish.
