State Fish and Wildlife northern coastal winter steelhead catch figures reveals no fishing effort of late

Here are the latest state Fish and Wildlife sport fishing winter steelhead checks from the northern Olympic coastal rivers:

Bogachiel/Quillayute River

Dec. 1-2: 23 bank anglers caught no fish for total of 112.5 hours fished.

Dec. 3-6: 26 bank anglers and 23 boat anglers caught 36 steelhead and released 10 for total of 237.5 hours fished.

Dec. 7-9: 81 bank anglers and 115 boat anglers caught 70 steelhead and released two for total of 1,102.0 hours fished.

Dec. 10-13: 28 bank anglers and 46 boat anglers caught 48 steelhead and released two for 291.0 hours fished.

Dec. 14-16: 71 bank anglers and 72 boat anglers caught 59 steelhead and released four for 640.0 hours fished.

Dec. 17-20: 25 bank anglers and eight boat anglers caught 19 steelhead and released one for 102.5 hours fished. High river flows during the week.

Dec. 21-23: 60 bank anglers and 61 boat anglers caught 60 steelhead and released seven for 571.5 hours fished.

Dec. 24-27: 33 bank anglers and 48 boat anglers caught 45 steelhead and released 13 for 420.5 hours fished.

Dec. 28-31: 68 bank anglers and 52 boat anglers caught 61 steelhead and released one for 610.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: 19 bank anglers and 18 boat anglers caught eight steelhead and released six for 212.0 hours fished.

Jan. 4-6: 12 bank anglers and 37 boat anglers caught 23 steelhead and released 23 for 265.0 hours fished.

Jan. 7-10: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Totals: 926 anglers caught 419 steelhead and released 51 for 4,664.5 hours fished.

Calawah River

Dec. 1-2: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 3-6: One bank angler caught no fish for total of 1.0 hours fished. River flows high.

Dec. 7-9: One bank angler caught one steelhead for total of 0.5 hours fished.

Dec. 10-13: Four boat anglers caught one steelhead for total of 12.0 hours fished.

Dec. 14-16: Five bank anglers and two boat anglers caught no fish for total of 30.5 hours fished.

Dec. 17-20: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 21-23: Four boat anglers caught one steelhead for 12.0 hours fished.

Dec. 24-27: Three bank anglers released one steelhead for 3.0 hours fished.

Dec. 28-31: Five bank anglers released two steelhead for 29.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: 19 bank anglers and 18 boat anglers caught eight steelhead and released six for 212.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: Two bank anglers caught no fish for 4.0 hours fished.

Jan. 4-6: One bank angler and two boat anglers caught no fish for 10.0 hours fished.

Jan. 7-10: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Totals: 30 anglers caught three steelhead and released one for 102.0 hours fished.

Sol Duc River

Dec. 1-2: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 3-6: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 7-9: One bank angler caught no fish for total of 4.0 hours fished.

Dec. 10-13: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 14-16: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 17-20: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 21-23: Three bank anglers and five boat anglers released two steelhead for 29.5 hours fished.

Dec. 24-27: No fishing effort.

Dec. 28-31: Three bank anglers and six boat anglers released two steelhead for 39.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: Four bank anglers caught no fish for 16.0 hours fished.

Jan. 4-6: One bank angler and 11 boat anglers caught one steelhead and released five for 75.0 hours fished.

Jan. 7-10: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Totals: 34 anglers caught one steelhead and released nine for 163.5 hours fished.

Lower Hoh River from Oxbow Campground to Barlow’s

Dec. 1-2: 12 bank anglers caught no fish for total of 69.0 hours fished. Little fishing effort due to high flows.

Dec. 3-6: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 7-9: 12 bank anglers and three boat anglers released two bull trout for total of 50.0 hours fished.

Dec. 10-13: 23 bank anglers and three boat anglers released five bull trout for total of 116.5 hours fished.

Dec. 14-16: 36 bank anglers and two boat anglers released one steelhead and one coho for total of 197.5 hours fished.

Dec. 17-20: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 21-23: Seven bank anglers caught no fish for 21 hours fished.

Dec. 24-27: 12 bank anglers caught one steelhead 57.0 hours fished.

Dec. 28-31: 39 bank anglers and 37 boat anglers caught four steelhead and released four steelhead, six bull trout and two whitefish for 351.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: 14 bank anglers and eight boat anglers caught one steelhead for 78.0 hours fished.

Jan. 4-6: 60 bank anglers and 26 boat anglers caught seven steelhead, and released 10 steelhead, five bull trout and two whitefish for 372.5 hours fished.

Jan. 7-10: One bank angler caught no fish for 1.0 hours fished. Not much fishing effort due to high river flows.

Totals: 295 anglers caught 13 steelhead and released 13 for 1,312.5 hours fished.

Upper Hoh River from Oxbow Campground to Olympic National Park Boundary

Dec. 1-2: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 3-6: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 7-9: Nine bank anglers and three boat anglers released two bull trout for total of 73.5 hours fished.

Dec. 10-13: Seven bank anglers and two boat anglers released five bull trout for total of 26.0 hours fished.

Dec. 14-16: Six bank anglers and 13 boat anglers released three steelhead and 18 bull trout for total of 110.0 hours fished.

Dec. 17-20: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Dec. 21-23: One bank angler and one boat angler released one steelhead for 12.5 hours fished.

Dec. 24-27: Two bank anglers and three boat anglers released one steelhead and two bull trout for 31.5 hours fished.

Dec. 28-31: 16 bank anglers and 29 boat anglers caught three steelhead (one wild steelhead illegally kept) and released 16 steelhead, five bull trout, six whitefish and one coho for 223.0 hours fished.

Jan. 1-3: One bank angler and four boat anglers caught no fish for 17.0 hours fished.

Jan. 4-6: 21 bank anglers and 15 boat anglers caught one steelhead, and released 20 steelhead, 15 bull trout, 19 whitefish and one cutthroat trout for 158.0 hours fished.

Jan. 7-10: No fishing effort due to high river flows.

Totals: 133 anglers caught four steelhead and released 41 for 651.5 hours fished.
