Northwest Ice Fishing Festival this Saturday in Molson

The Northwest Ice Fishing Festival Derby is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 16) at Sidley Lake in Molson, and those who aren’t into fishing will still find plenty of fun activities.

The derby is sponsored by the Oroville Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Molson Grange. There will be a grand prize for the top two largest fish, including divisions for adult and youth.

State Fish and Wildlife biologists say water conditions at Sidley have improved with some anglers already catching some nice 2o to 3-pound trout.

Cost is $20, and $10 for youth under age 14. There will be a Pancake Breakfast ($7) at Molson Grange Hall hosted by Grange Volunteers from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and coffee and snacks from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Gourmet Gallery Food & Beverage at the edge of Sidley Lake is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be an afternoon Dog Sledding Demonstration by Rev. Gary Forgey, plus arts and crafts booths and games. There will be a social event from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Grange Hall, followed by an awards dinner 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. by the Sitzmark Ski Area Volunteers.

Those looking for other fun things to do can ski or snowboard at Sitzmark Ski Area or go snowmobiling and cross country skiing at the Highland Snow Park.
