The Anacortes Salmon Derby is March 30-31, and for the past two years this highly popular event has sold out their 1,000 ticket limit quickly.
Tickets are now on sale, and the cost is $60.
Anglers will get a chance at $25,000 in guaranteed purse money with thousands more in merchandise prizes. There are prize categories for women, youth and active military.
As part of the entry fee anglers will receive free launching at Cap Sante Marina (bunk trailers OK); three night’s moorage; a free ticket to the Friday night fishing film festival; a Saturday night no-host social with snacks; and a Sunday BBQ lunch.
The event is hosted by volunteer members of the Fidalgo-San Juan Islands Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers. The derby raises funds for scholarships that benefit students pursuing careers in fishery management and related science. More than $163,000 in scholarships and grants have been awarded to date.
