The Everett Blackmouth Derby last Saturday, hosted by the Everett Steelhead & Salmon Club and the Everett Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers, produced 27 hatchery chinook for 94 boats.
“Just a few ounces separated the top two fish in the derby,” said Woody Woods, the derby spokesman.
The wind picked up in late morning, pushing most of the boats off Possession Bar north to Hat Island, the racetrack and Elger Bay/Greenbank. The top two fish came from Midchannel Bank off Port Townsend.
Results: 1, Donald Horner, 14.56 (dressed) pound hatchery chinook, $3,000; 2, Troy Moe, 14.36, $1,500; 3, Spencer Worley, 12.99, $500; 4, Corey Bartlet, 9.87, $250.
The derby is one of 15 in the Northwest Marine Trade Association’s Northwest Salmon Derby Series. Details:http://www.northwestsalmonderbyseries.com.
