The public is invited to attend a water safety event at Kress Lake in Southwest Washington from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
The event has also prompted state Fish and Wildlife to close the lake located in Cowlitz County near Kalama to fishing from 12:01 a.m. on May 17 through 6 p.m. on May 18.
More than 600 people are expected to attend the event, and boats will be used for teaching safety classes to kids and adults.
There will be exhibits and displays. Kids age 4 to 14 can fish for trout in a special area, and fishing gear will be available. The event is hosted by the Cowlitz County Fire District Number 5. For details, go to http://www.cowlitzfd5.org/index.cfm.
