Last chance for spot shrimp in two marine areas happening Wednesday
Spot shrimp anglers will get another chance in two local marine areas.
Spot shrimp fishing will be open Wednesday (June 5) in northeastern side of Whidbey Island (Marine Area 8-1) in the Deception Pass/Hope Island/Skagit Bay areas; and south central Puget Sound (Area 11) in waters south of the northern tip of Vashon Island.
Fishing hours in 8-1 is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in 11 is 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Angler should note that Marine Area 8-2 is closed for spot shrimp, and will close for all shrimping on June 5.
In a state Fish and Wildlife news release it said Marine Area 8 insufficient quota remains for a standard full day of fishing, so the opening has been modified to take the small amount of remaining quota. This is an experimental opening to determine if smaller amounts of quota can be targeted and harvested by the recreational fishery.
In Area 11 a sufficient recreational spot shrimp quota remains for one more day of fishing.
