Sturgeon catch and keep fishery closes Saturday in Columbia’s John Day Pool

Sturgeon catch and keep fishing will closed in the Columbia River’s John Day Pool beginning Saturday, June 29.

A state Fish and Wildlife news release states the harvest guideline of 500 sturgeon is expected to be achieved by the closing date.

This section includes the Columbia and tributaries from John Day Dam upstream to McNary Dam (John Day Reservoir).

Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing will remain open.

The Columbia between The Dalles Dam and John Day Dam is open for sturgeon catch and keep. The spawning sanctuaries from McNary Dam downstream 1.5 miles to the Highway 82 Bridge and from John Day Dam down 2.4 miles to the Rufus Grain Elevator are closed to all sturgeon fishing through July 31.
