Women’s outdoor workshop is Sept. 13-15 in North Bend

A Women’s Workshop to learn the basics of fishing, hunting and other outdoor skills is Sept. 13-15 at Camp Waskowitz in North Bend.

The annual workshop is coordinated by Washington Outdoor Women (WOW), a non-profit program dedicated to teaching women outdoor skills and natural resource stewardship. Now in its 16th year, WOW is an educational outreach program of the Washington Wildlife Federation.

More than 20 different classes will be offered throughout the weekend, including archery, basic freshwater fishing, fly fishing and fly tying, kayaking, wild edibles, big-game hunting, compass skills, wilderness first aid, survival skills, outdoor photography and more.

State Fish and Wildlife staff members serving as volunteer instructors for the event include biologists Laura Till and Susan Cierebiej, who will teach the use of a map and compass in the field, and Stacie Kelsey, who will teach basic freshwater fishing. A total of 32 instructors are volunteering at the workshop.

Workshop participants must be at least 18 years old, and those planning to participate in the fishing and fly-fishing sessions must have a current Washington recreational fishing license.

Cost is $250 includes the weekend’s lodging, meals and use of all necessary equipment. Limited to 125 participants. Partial Scholarships available from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
