Lake Chelan lake trout action still going at good pace

Here is the latest fishing report from Anton Jones of Darrell & Dad’s Family Guide Service:

What’s hot is trolling the Bar for Lake Trout on Lake Chelan early in the morning and late in the evening.  Later in the morning, the upper trench has been productive.  Trolling the face of Manson Bay in the afternoon has also worked.

During the first two and last two hours of light trolling the Bar has gotten the biggest fish to bite.  Later in the morning, move to the upper end of the trench and pound piles of fish in water from 175 to 245 feet deep.  In the middle of the day, work the face of Manson Bay in depths of 165 to 255 feet deep to find biters.

On the Bar, Worden Lures U20 and T4 flatfish in purple glow have produced most of our big fish, fished off the outrigger rods.  Silver Horde’s Needlefish hootchies in glow green rigged with a Mack’s Lures glow Smile Blade and baited with a strip of Northern Pikeminnow have produced numbers of fish off the downrigger rods.  Fishing the ledges at the upper end of the trench and the face of Manson Bay entails some rapid depth changes so the outrigger rods become more difficult to manage.  We are catching our fish in those locations with those needlefish and Mack’s Lures mini-cha cha Squidders on a fourteen inch leader behind a 0000 Mack’s Double D dodger in chrome.  We smear everything with Pautzke’s Krill juice as a cover scent.

Your fishing tip of the week is to consider eliminating treble hooks when fishing tight to the bottom on Chelan.  Every treble hook that you replace with a single reduces the potential for picking up bottom debris by two thirds.

The kid’s tip of the week is to provide choices and to be consistent when delivering consequences to misbehaving children.  I think small children repeatedly interrupting adult conversation is a common example.  Because of our busy life styles most kids are attention starved and will interrupt inappropriately unless trained.  One warning is sufficient letting them know the interruption is breaking a rule.  Then a choice like either wait your turn or you’ll have to go to time out.  Then enforce a time out.  One minute per year of age is about right.  Then when they come out of time out process the reason for the time out and what the better choice would have been.  And remember, to offer them the floor periodically so they can get that attention legitimately.

The safety tip of the week is to get off the water when those late summer thunderstorms come through.  You are the highest thing on the water!
