Lower Columbia fall chinook sport catch sets a new record

Here are more updates on the Lower Columbia River sport fall chinook fishery that has been one for the memory books.

Through Sunday, Sept. 22, an estimated 29,307 adult fall chinook have been kept from 130,883 angler trips on the Lower Columbia River.  The adult fall chinook catch is a new record (previous 28,169 fish in 2011) and ranks second for effort (147,343 trips also in 2011) since at least 1969.

Last week on the Lower Columbia, anglers made 16,256 trips and caught 6,645 adult fall chinook (3,189 kept and 3,456 released), 14 summer steelhead (nine kept and five released) and 73 adult coho (46 kept and 27 released).
