Salmon Tales, a celebration of Westport’s favorite fish is happening Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maritime Museum, and includes vendors, a smoked salmon contest, charter boat bingo, live music and beer garden.
Anglers can also try their luck at a variety of salmon derbies happening during the event.
The Smoked Salmon Derby will have a panel of judges along with an impressive number of professional salmon smokers, one of whom will be awarded the title of “Best Smoked Salmon in the Pacific Northwest.”
The “Popular Vote” winner will be awarded based on the public’s vote. Participants can buy a tasting card and sample the smoked salmon from each participant in the professional division and then vote for their favorite one.
A judged Amateur Division is also planned and an award will go to the “Best Home Smoker.”
The Charter Boat Bingo will occur all day long and the public can purchase a bingo-style card, and go to area businesses to find boats marked with card square numbers, and qualify for drawings for charter fishing trips. The grand prize winner gets a three-day fishing holiday. A total of 16 trips will be awarded.
