Oregon Fish and Wildlife Columbia River regional fishing reports and creel checks

COLUMBIA FISHING REPORTS BY OREGON FISH AND WILDLIFE

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

  • Sturgeon retention is open from The Dalles Dam upstream to the John Day Dam.
  • The Columbia River is open for fall Chinook, coho and steelhead from Buoy 10 upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.  Chinook catch rates are still good below Bonneville Dam, and excellent above.
  • Walleye fishing is good in Troutdale.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

Below Bonneville Dam anglers had the best success in the gorge where boat anglers averaged 1.05 chinook and 0.16 coho caught per boat.  In Troutdale, boat anglers averaged 0.17 chinook and 0.07 coho caught per boat, while in the Portland to Longview area boat anglers averaged 0.12 chinook caught per boat.  In the Bonneville Pool, boat anglers averaged 2.21 fall chinook and 0.67 coho caught per boat.

Gorge Bank:

Weekend checking showed one jack chinook kept for 28 bank anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed 20 adult fall chinook, two jack chinook and three adipose fin-clipped coho kept for 19 boats (47 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed seven adult fall chinook and one adipose fin-clipped coho kept, plus two unclipped coho released for 41 boats (68 anglers).

Portland to Longview Bank:

Weekend checking showed no catch for 10 bank anglers.

Portland to Longview Boats:

Weekly checking showed two adult fall chinook and one jack chinook kept for 17 boats (29 anglers).

Bonneville Pool:

Weekly checking showed 145 adult fall chinook, 11 jack chinook and 40 adipose fin-clipped coho kept, plus 16 adult chinook released for 66 boats (170 anglers).

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for five bank anglers; and one chinook and one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept for four boats (eight anglers).

STURGEON:

Bonneville Dam downstream to Buoy 10 Boats:

Closed to retention, catch and release only.  No report.

Bonneville Dam downstream to Buoy 10 Bank:

Closed to retention, catch and release only.  No report.

The Dalles Pool: 

Weekly checking showed 12 sublegal sturgeon released for eight bank anglers; and seven legal white sturgeon kept, plus one oversize and 69 sublegal sturgeon released for 10 boats (30 anglers).

WALLEYE:

Gorge:

No report.

Troutdale:

Weekend checking showed 10 walleye kept for two boats (four anglers).

Portland:

No report.

The Dalles Pool:

No report.
