Banks Lake and Lake Roosevelt are producing good trout fishing

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

I called Lou at Coulee Playland to see what was going on up on Banks Lake and he pretty much confirmed what I expected, with a couple of surprises.

I have always known that the fishing for rainbow trout can be excellent this time of year on Banks.  Fish of 6 to 7 pounds are no surprise, but the number of big smallmouth that are being caught surprised me.

The water temperature is still in the high 40s and Banks, and anglers that cast crankbaits to the rocks for trout are catching some dandy smallmouth.

Big trout are being caught from the shoreline at the north end and near the marina at the bottom end of Banks.  Trollers can get the big trout, too, but they have to really hug the rocks to get them.

If you want to troll and not cast, try putting a black Wooly Bugger way back behind the boat.  This can be very effective along the dam at the south end, and off the steep banks at the top end of the reservoir.

Lou also mentioned that the trout fishing is very good on Lake Roosevelt right now.  There are lots of fish right off Spring Canyon.
