State Fish and Wildlife Columbia River regional fishing reports

Salmon/Steelhead

Overall, fishing was pretty slow on the Cowlitz, Kalama, Lewis, and Washougal rivers last week.

Notice of Columbia River Working Group Meeting: ODFW & WDFW have scheduled a workgroup meeting from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday January 3, 2013 at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum (5000 Discovery Drive, The Dalles, Oregon) to review spring chinook harvest and allocation. A public comment period is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Winter Compact Hearing is tentatively scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday January 29, location to be determined. The purpose of this hearing is to review salmon and steelhead stock status and consider non-Indian commercial and recreational fishing seasons in the Columbia River and Select Areas, including:

2014 recreational spring salmon fisheries.

2014 Select Area winter-summer commercial fisheries.

2014 non-Indian commercial winter/spring commercial salmon fishing plan.

Recent releases of catchable size rainbows (no report on angling success):

Lacamas Lake near Camas – 4,648 fish Dec. 20

Icehouse near Bridge of the Gods – 1,000 fish Dec. 23

Little Ash Lake near Stevenson – 1,000 fish Dec. 23

Maryhill Pond – 500 fish Dec. 23
