Here is the latest Hanford steelhead report from Paul Hoffarth, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Pasco:
Through December 31, a total of 306 steelhead have been harvested in the Hanford Reach (Hwy 395 to old Hanford townsite). Roughly 45-percent of the steelhead encountered to date have been unclipped.
In December, anglers caught 97 steelhead and harvested 63 hatchery steelhead. Catch and harvest in December were only slightly below last year’s fishery but well below the 10-year average.
Anglers are averaging 10 hours per steelhead caught, 17 hours per keeper. Boat anglers are faring better than the bank anglers.
