OREGON FISH AND WILDLIFE COLUMBIA FISHING REPORTS

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

  • Steelhead angling is fair in The Dalles and John Day pools.
  • White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam, but remains an option for catch and release angling.
  • Effective January 1 – 19, 2014 sturgeon retention is open in the Bonneville Pool.
  • Effective January 1, 2014 sturgeon retention is open in The Dalles and John Day Pools until the respective guidelines are met.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

The salmonid creel program on the lower Columbia has ended for the year and will resume February of 2014.

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for three bank anglers; and one unclipped steelhead released for one boat (two anglers).

John Day Arm and Vicinity:

Weekly checking showed no catch for one bank angler.

STURGEON:

Sturgeon angling was slow last week in Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day pools.

Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam:

Closed to retention, catch and release only.

Bonneville Pool:

Weekly checking showed one legal white sturgeon kept, plus two legal, one oversize and 10 sublegal sturgeon released for 35 bank anglers; and nine legal white sturgeon kept, plus 305 sublegal sturgeon released for 22 boats (58 anglers).

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed six sublegal sturgeon released for 10 bank anglers; and no catch for one boat (two anglers).

John Day Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for 13 bank anglers; and two sublegal sturgeon released for four boats (nine anglers).

WALLEYE:

The Dalles Pool:

No report.

John Day Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for one boat (one angler).
