The Gig Harbor Fly Shop is offering free “Explore Fly Fishing Seminars: Building a Community Around Fly Fishing” from noon to 1 p.m. on Feb. 22 and March 22.
Many believe that fly-fishing is a difficult sport to learn, but the Gig Harbor Fly Shop looks to dispel that myth with these free seminars. The seminar will cover basic equipment, learning how to cast, and what flies anglers will need to get started.
Once anglers complete the free seminars they can attend a basic introductory class titled “Fly Fishing 1.1” that cost $50. It will cover topics including tackle and equipment, basic fly types, how and where to fish in Washington, and hands on casting instruction.
The shop also offers more intermediate and advanced tactics.
One is the “On The Water Experience” class, which provides anglers a chance to hook and land their first trout on a fly rod.
Another is “Fly Fishing 1.5: Puget Sound Beach Clinic” and is one of the most popular classes with progressing anglers or those who have moved from another part of the country where they have fly fished. This clinic covers techniques for migratory Pacific salmon in marine waters.
Other course options include an introduction to fly tying as well as individual casting instruction and guided trips.
