Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River – No report on angling success.

Last week Tacoma Power recovered 76 coho salmon, ten coho jacks and 24 winter-run steelhead during four days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.  During the past week Tacoma Power employees released 20 coho adults, six coho jacks and one winter-run steelhead into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton and 45 coho adults and four coho jacks into Lake Scanewa above Cowlitz Falls Dam.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 8,220 cubic feet per second on Monday, January 27. Water visibility is ten feet.

Washougal River – 28 bank anglers with 1 hatchery steelhead kept and 3 wild fish released.  1 boat angler released 1 wild steelhead.  Wild fish released were chrome bright 4-7 pounders.

The Dalles and John Day pools – Boat anglers are last year’s summer run steelhead.  Majority of the fish were wild and had to be released.

Sturgeon

The Dalles Pool – Boat anglers are catching some legals.

John Day Pool – Slow for legal size fish.

Walleye and Bass

The Dalles and John Day pools – Bank anglers are catching some walleye in The Dalles Pool while boat anglers are catching fish in John Day Pool.  No effort observed for bass in either pool.
